Paper beads

Yes, you’ve heard very well: paper beads!!!!

“Do paper beads exist? I only know of glass beads, ceramic beads, metal beads….but PAPER BEADS?” one can wonder.

Not only they exist but they are very, very easy to make. You can make necklaces with them or any other jewellery. This is a craft that kids can make as well. It is also a very good way to recycle old magazines or all this junk mail we receive every day in our mail box.

You will need

  • A cutting board
  • Cutter
  • Ruler
  • Old magazines and/or junk mail
  • Glue
  • Toothpicks
  • Clear nail polish

Method

  • Put a mark on the bottom of the page of your magazine every 4cm
  • Put a mark on the top of the page of your magazine every 4cm starting 2cm after the edge of the page.
  • Join the lines diagonally. This way you will have long tapered strips (as shown in the picture)

Cut the long strips

Start rolling each strip on a toothpick. 5cm before the end put glue and keep wrapping it around the toothpick.

Once they are dry you can polish them (while still on the toothpick) with some clear nail polish.

Extra tips

Choose pages with text only for a black and white effect or with pictures for a colourful effect.

I hope you will enjoy making them and if you do I would like to see your creations so do share them and tag me.
