My Handmade Christmas part 2

The following tutorial is very simple but you need some basic sewing skills to do it. It is a stuffed Christmas tree.

This is something I learned many years ago (in the 90s) from an Indian lady I only ever met once. Whilst in Cyprus she organised some craft afternoon workshops and I was fortunately taken by a friend.

Over the years I did many of these Christmas trees. I am going to show you how to do it.

You will need:

  1. Pattern
  2. Cotton fabric of your choice
  3. Stuffing material
  4. Scissors, pins, thread and sewing machine,

Method:

  • Draw the pattern on a piece of paper (size can vary)
  • Place the pattern on the fabric and cut 4 pieces adding 1cm seam allowance.
  • Take two pieces of fabric and place them right sides together and repeat for the other two.
  • Sew around leaving the bottom open.
  • Clip the corners.
  • Turn the two pieces right sides out.
  • Press and join with a straight seam in the middle of the tree (from top to bottom)
  • You end up with 4 compartments to be stuffed.
  • Stuff each part of the tree and hand stitch the bottom.

At this point your main structure is finished. You can now improvise with some decoration. You can add little bells on the edge of the branches, a star or a bow on the top or whatever you like.

Following the same method you can do several trees in different sizes.

Enjoy doing it and I would love to see your creations. So share it on Instagram and tag @ourmodusvivendi
