Handmade Advent Calendar

It’s this time of the year again!

Although I am not a typical “Christmas” person (Christmas carols before the 20th of December is a “no no” for me and Christmas decoration in October and November stress me out a lot) creating a warm atmosphere in our home is something I definitely enjoy. The smell of homemade traditional cookies and cakes, the low burning fire in our woodstove, lit candles and my craft making is what Christmas preparation is all about in our home.

Every year I do some Christmas crafts for gifts or Christmas charity fairs and of course an advent calendar for my niece.

Here is this year’s advent but you can also check my previous posts for more ideas here or here

You will need:

  • Cotton fabric in different prints and colours
  • A drift wood
  • A variety of candies or chocolate
  • Twine
  • Embroidery thread and needle
  • Zig zag scissors
  • Christmas ornaments of your choice (I put wooden trees)

Method:

  • Cut 24 pieces of fabric with your zig zag scissors 24cm width x 15cm height
  • Embroider the numbers from 1 to 24 in different colours on the right side of the fabric
  • Fold the fabric, right sides together, and sew the two sides (side and bottom) leaving the top open (as shown in picture number 6)
  • Fill the 24 sachets with candies, chocolate or other treats
  • Tie them with the twine and hang them on the drift wood decorating with additional Christmas ornaments

Enjoy making it and start opening each sachet as from December 1st. Don’t forget to share your creations on Instagram and tag @ourmodusvivendi so I can see them.
